Island Perspectives - Art from the West Coast

"Capturing My Surroundings"
Originally from England, Heather Hughson emigrated to Canada when she was 13. But it wasn't until she moved to British Columbia that she was able to devote more time to painting. Alive to the world around her, she finds that Campbell River on Vancouver Island has provided her with inspiration. Hughson notes, "Inspiration is all around us! From looking out towards the coastal mountains to hiking the trails next door - the scenery never stops to amaze!" Her work as a administrator in the Campbell River Community Arts Council gives her a bird's eye view of the community's contemporary artistic contribution and stimulates her growth. Initially working in watercolours, Heather now dedicates most of her time to acrylics although she does extensive photography as well. Her work is representational though often incorporates elements of abstraction.
